Antarctopia, devoted to the past and future life on Antarctica, is the main feature of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition (Biennale Architetturra, 2014). Curated by Nadim Samman, the Antarctic Pavilion features work by Yuri Avvakumov, Alexander Brodsky, Marcel Dinahet, Yury Grigoryan, Studio Hadid Vienna, Hugh Broughton Architects, Juergen Mayer H., Alexey Kozyr, Totan Kuzembaev, Mariele Neudecker, Alex Schweder, Sergei Skuratov Architects, Veech Media Architecture (VMA), Elizaveta Vintova and Alexander Zelikin. They presented ideas for the future development of Antarctica and its adaptation to human presence.
Project Antarctopia is a step towards the first Biennial of the Antarctic, which according to Alexander Ponomarev, project leader and curator Nadim Samman, would be held 2015-2016 on board international research vessels, and provide a ‘platform’ for cultural exchanges between artists and scientists in the forefront of work on this icy continent.
