A new album by Denis Matsuev, the People’s Artist of Russia, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt, was released as a two-disc album comprising both of Liszt‘s piano concerti, two symphonic poems and Totentanz, a symphonic piece for piano and orchestra with the support of the Foundation.

“Liszt is one of my favourite composers,” says Denis Matsuev. “Particular periods of my life are related to each of his concerti. For instance, playing the First Piano Concerto in 1998 I won the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow). With my teacher, Professor Dorensky, we decided to replace Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto by Liszt’s First, literally a few days before submitting our application. The Second Piano Concerto and Totentanz are also among my favourite compositions.”
