Trees headed the cast of characters at this exhibition at the Marble Hall of the Russian Museum of Lord Charles March’s photographs, Nature Translated.

The opening of the exhibition, Nature Translated, attended by Her Majesty’s Consul General at Saint Petersburg, Keith Allan and representatives of the British Council, gave a good start to the Year of Britain in Russia and was the forerunner to an April exhibition in Moscow.

The exhibition demonstrated a new approach to landscape photography, one which allows a photographer to use the camera ‘as a brush’. Most of the images depict the woods surrounding the Goodwood estate, which has belonged to the March family since the end of the 17^th Century. March explained in the opening ceremony that, “In my photographs there are images of the trees, but with the addition of my soul and my feelings. This is what gives the exhibition its name — Nature Translated.”

Charles March expressed his appreciation to the AVC Charity Foundation, for sponsoring the exhibition, thus allowing him to introduce his work to a Russian audience.
