Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer is a great musical explorer. His creative co-operation with the outstanding conductor Yuri Temirkanov of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in Sibelius’ most challenging violin concerto became one of the most exciting events of the Festival. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, brimming with exotic aromas and the colours of a Thousand and One Nights, followed it.
