Inaugurating the 2014 Moscow Photo Biennial, the work of the British photographer Lord Charles March, Nature Translated, was exhibited at the Mouravieff-Apostol House and Museum, following a successful showing earlier in the year at the Marble Hall of the Russian Museum, Saint Petersburg.

His approach to landscape photography is to use the camera ‘as a brush’. Most of the images are of the woods surrounding the Goodwood Estate, belonging to the March family since the end of the 17^th Century. The photographs can be seen as a celebration of the English romance with the countryside.

The works of Charles March have a quality which give new insights to the ‘language of nature’. According to March, “In my photographs there are images of trees, but with the addition of my soul and my feelings. This is what gives the exhibition its name — Nature Translated.”
