The VI International Music Festival Annecy Classic has ended. The Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yuri Temirkanov gave the final concert consisting of works by Sergei Prokofiev and Anton Bruckner.
The pianist playing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 was Denis Matsuev, whose charismatic and striking performance was well-suited to the rebellious spirit of this music.
It is a rare event for Yuri Temirkanov to turn to Anton Bruckner’s symphonic legacy, which made the chance to hear his interpretation of the Austrian composer’s Symphony No. 4 (‘Romantic’) all the more rewarding. The supple playing, clear phrasing and expressive solos of individual instrumentalists made the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra’s performance a memorable event.
It is worth pointing out that during the last week of August, within the framework of this festival, fourteen concerts were given, bringing music-lovers programs of symphonies, chamber music and opera works performed by leading musicians of our times and also by young musicians. Over ten thousand people from all corners of the globe came to share in the musical experiences provided by these concerts.
